Probably the DUMBEST rule in the French driving code. Seriously, priority to the right? Why can't they just have a T stop like in the US. The supposed reasons behing the priority to the right rule are to slow down traffic and make drivers more aware. But wouldn't it be safer to just invest in a couple more lights, some white paint or some signs?
And if you're going to make a priority to the right intersection at least make sure there is proper visibility, all hedges are trimmed, trees are pruned and that there aren't idiots parked up to the corner.
That's it for today's little rant about driving in France. I've got more to say but will save it for another day.

Priority to the right

I have gotten into SO MANY close calls from that stupid rule. And seriously pissed off people trying to merge from tiny alleyways on the right feeding into major thoroughfares. I just can't ever remember to yield to them.
AMEN
I was warned repeatedly, but it is so hard to remember. Plus if you slow down or stop and it turns out the person at the corner on your right actually has a stop sign then the guy behind you is screaming and cursing if he hasn't already rear-ended you.
There seem to be fewer and fewer of those places where you need to be mindful of that (traffic circles have been a GREAT improvement). I think that makes it even harder to remember when you do drive in a town to be mindful of one-ways and their implications for people on the right. And the flip side : I'm timid about actually taking the right of way when I'm the one on the right. It's just not a habit I have developed yet.
I so totally agree with you - the yield to the right rule is the dumbest thing ever!
