The more things change...

When I was an au pair in Paris, I would walk the kids to school in my pyjamas. It wasn't by choice really, since by the time the kids were ready to go out the door, I hadn't had time to get dressed much less pee. I was living on the 6th floor in a maid's room without running water so in the morning, I'd come downstairs to use the amenities and start work with the 3 year old before I could even attend to my needs. I would throw a long jacket over my flannel pyjamas and walk out the door. I thought that was part of being an au pair.

It turns out, that's what being the mother of 2 is like. I look much like a soccer mom when I drop off Suzanne in the morning with my sandals, poney tail and large coat covering up my sweat pants and sleep t-shirt. And I'm not really self-conscious of it (anymore), except when people in the school courtyard stare at me...but they are staring for other reasons all together. they are staring because my 3 year old and I are speaking American (probably a bit loudly too).

It's funny how the kids react to the English they hear. They ask me in french if I speak French, if Suz speaks French and then they begin to speak English (gibberish) for me. suz is proud though and is looking forward to me coming to her class to teach songs in english. and I am proud (of her personality and our work) because, even with the kids watching us speak gibberish, she isn' concerned. Not yet anyway...

PS Mom, I didn't proofread.
