Why Obama is right (again)

Introducing Max Pierre Norman J. named for 2 crotchety old men from different sides of the ocean, his great grandfathers. Born on August 11th, weighing 3.395 kilos and measuring 50.5 cm.

I am still amazed at the hospital stay - I should have stayed for 5 days, but instead opted to go home early (an option they offer since this is a second child). Since I was the only one giving birth the night of August 11th, I had 2 midwives tending to me for all 11 hours of labor, my own personal baby nurse and 2 obstetricians all for myself. Including my epidural, the extra assistance from the obstetricians and a 3 day hospital stay including 3 full meals, midwives and baby nurses coming in every 3 hours to check on me and Max, plus 2 home visits from midwives (since I went home early), the total cost out of pocket was 0€. Did I mention that I gave birth at a public hospital and had a private room with a fridge? And when I was let out, an internist came to see me to discuss follow up check ups with my GP, the baby's check ups, and gave me a prescription for abdominal and post-natal physical therapy. All part of preventitive medicine practiced in France.

So, the reason President Obama's proposal to change america's health care system is clear. I may have given birth in a public hospital with socialized health care but I did not sacrifice one iota of anything at all. And I will rebound better than most Americans do because of the aftercare. And I have a beautiful, healthy little boy as proof.

Adorable baby, Reb! I'm glad to hear that everything went well. Did you by chance go to Jeanne de Flandres?

What a beautiful baby! Congratulations!
Those tiny fingers and toes are so cute... I'm just melting (my kids are "big" now: 15 and 11 years old).

I just can't understand the big fuss about reforming health care in the US...
Like some people love to say, socialized health care really is evil isn't it ;)

Congratulations!!!!
And he is soooo cute!
Please, send me your snail mail address at walisabeth at yahoo dot com, I'd like to send a little token of my excitement about your new little boy's birth. How is your daughter feeling about the new brother?

Also, although I am sure that your blogging and blog-reading time is very limited, I'd like to let you know that I have made my blog private (due to a little "situation" that was all my fault...). I hope that you will still visit occasionally.

How adorable! Congrats to you and the rest of the happy, lucky family!

ITA about that "evil" socialized medicine. My twin daughters were born in a French hospital - it was fabulous and FREE! In contrast, lots of my friends in the US (who were supposedly "well insured") were treated far less well than I and my babies were.

Anyway, I am very, very happy for you. He's a beauty.

Fabulous news Reb, I'm glad everything came out alright ! Bienvenu à Max Pierre...
:-D

Things are not so bad here in France after all... it is nice to get cared for so well, and not have to pay a cent out of pocket. Best wishes for the next few weeks, with somewhat disrupted sleep and what not...

Me, too, late, but congratulations! He's a beautiful little boy and will do well by his names I am sure. And good for you in the socialized medicine universe! Would that Americans, of which I number, did not take their own mythology so seriously.

Amitiés,
