Europe and me

Last week as I was sititng at a meeting with our 7 "Member State" delegations listening to their banter and jokes about Belgium not yet being part of France and Alscae still being part of France, in between their heated (and boring) discussions about which transnational cooperation bs projects to help fund, I took a step back from taking minutes. Between thinking that it is actually pretty cool what I do, even if i don't necessarily love it, I also kept thinking that it's actually pretty amazing that I have a job like this.

Six years ago, I was still a student staying in France because of my student status, waiting in lines at night for my residence permits. And now, I'm working for the regional government, working for Europe and helping to implement European regulations and other such blah blah the European Commission does. And all this in offices that overlook the place where I spent oh so many nights in line telling people I was Canadian...

From what I've gathered thus far, no one wants either Belgium OR the goofy Alsaciens as part of France, but thats beside the point...
