Franco-American palate

My daughter is French. If there was any doubt about it before, there is none now. During the holidays, not only did she pull her weight when we ate the traditional New Years seafood platter with my husband's grandmother, eating a half dozen raw oysters, crab, shrimp, snails (fresh water and salt) and lobster, but she also partook of the traditional Christmas foie gras preferring to drink water over the sparkling apple juice I got her.

Then on Sunday we went to our local haunt with my brother-in-law where Suzanne continued on her culinary marathon with some pâté (served with red onions and cornichons which she devours whole) and steak tartar. To her credit, she did eat french fries which could be either American or French, depending on your angle. She finished it all off with a mini crème brûlée and some whipped cream.

In a week, we'll be eating on the other side of the Atlantic. It should be interesting to see how her little palate works with diner food, tex-mex and bagels.

I'm not sure what a typical American toddler eats - or what a typical French toddler eats for that matter - but I'm fairly certain that Suzanne is an exception to most of the culinary rules.

I commend you for having raised a toddler who eats just about everything. But, then again, except for liver and tripes, I did eat just about everything when I was a French toddler.

This said, I'm sure that she'll love American food. How long will you be in the U.S.?

Soda and goldfish crackers or vegan, I'm so special I can save the planet for my anaemic looking, no-mannered prodigies. Maybe it's a California thing?
